This book got me hooked on spy thrillers. Follet is a true master when it comes to plotting and suspense.
Hits on all cylinders: plot, pacing, love story, narrative momentum, and characters — especially a great, interesting villain.
Classic spy story, and it’s a tribute to Follett’s storytelling skills that he has you on the edge of your seat even though you know how the battle of El Alamein ended. Great, great book.
Excluding The Spy Who Came In From the Cold, this may well be one of the most imitated yet unequalled spy thrillers of recent decades. And it never, ever gets old.
